Unstoppable? He may put up a fight but San Jose's defense is average at best. Wings in 5.

Here we go again with the "SJ has an average defense" argument. People who say that haven't watched the team play (well obviously you did last night and I'm sure your opinion is a little different now). We have a physical presence who can score from the point in Rivet, a hard hitting aggressor who can make good plays in McLaren, 2 offensive defensemen who can start and finish plays in Carle and Ehrhoff, and 2 smart shutdown types who can play huge minutes in Hannan and Vlasic. We have a guy for every situation and they're all good at what they do. The best part about our defense is the depth. If any of those guys gets knocked out though, then we're in trouble because Murray and Davison are both really bad.

Your defense was nothing but average. Its actually a disadvantage for Detroit to be on the power play, its been like that all season. Mike Babcock refuses to change the style up and will always stick with point shots. Detroit has the most predictable power play in the NHL. That along with San Jose being terribly out shot leads me to believe that San Jose will have problems. Two piss poor defensive breakdowns in 30 seconds and the game was over.

Thornton and Marleau's lines were both non factors through-out the entire game.

I'll stick with Wings in 5.

There's no way in hell that Detroit will win 4 stright against them.

I say San Jose in 6 games, Detroit will be gone. also I hope the Canucks can win there series versus Anaheim. If they do win they'll probably be in for a very tough battle against San Jose.

i'm going with detroit in 7. detroit played horribly thursday night, thats for sure. and i wouldn't attribute it to San Jose's Defense.. it was just them playing horribly. Schneider kept losing the puck all night, and even Lidstrom was making mistakes, and lidstrom never makes mistakes. it was very uncharacteristic of them... im sure babcock will turn that around though.

The only thing holding SJ back is not Detroit. SJ is obviously a better team than Detroit in all facets. The problem is that they get lazy sometimes and rely on pure skill. That doesn't win games, especially not in the playoffs. If SJ can play as motivated as they were in the first series then this will be over soon. If Detroit keeps outworking SJ then this is Detroits series.

on versus (correct me if i'm wrong) the guys were saying something that if detriot plays physical it takes that away for SJ and all detriot has to do is play thier game and its theirs

Sorry, 1 goal and 9 assists doesn't equate to unstopable to me. Datsyuk was one step away from tying the game before he got hauled down with seconds on the clock. Thornton has been average at best.

Come on man. I never thought badly of you. Don't change that now and be a homer.

If he's been so 'average' then why is he the leading scorer for both teams in the series? Why is he getting defenseman minutes as a forward? Why was he the SOLE reason that SJ won Monday's game? You're not being a hockey fan if you think he's playing average. Even some of the best players in the league agree that you can't beat him, your best strategy is to try and minimize his impact. That's coming from Lidstrom and Chelios. I take their word over yours anyday.

What happened to Wings in 5? :x

Ya my team (SJ) is really looking too lax out there right now and if they don't start building some momentum and working hard for a change, then they will lose this series. Detroit is definitely picking up the pace and that's been the difference. I repeat myself. SJ is more skilled but doesn't have a very good work ethic. Detroit has more experience and poise and it's the difference right now. I hope my team can turn it around here soon.

?

You called 5 games, wrong. I still maintain my viewpoint. SJ beat themselves. They had the talent to win the series but Detroit had the work ethic. Good job by your team. Good series.
