Default Youth Ice Hockey vs Roller Hockey

I have my 11-year old son playing roller hockey at a rink with well organized leagues in the meto-detroit area. I have no aspirations of him playing ice hockey at the college/pro level, so I just want him to be able to play recreationally. My question is, is there any benefit to him [in terms of learning hockey fundamentals] by moving him into an ice league?

If you want him to learn ice hockey fundamentals, what is the drawback of getting him on the ice? Your question has confused me.....

Maybe I am missing something....:???:
