Default CCM Pro Tacks / Super Tacks 992

Hi Guys,
I've been using the CCM Pro Tacks for years now. As is well known they're not produced anymore and therefore hard to find, anyhow in size 7.5. Now I found the Super Tacks 992. Does anyone know if there's a considerable difference between the Pro and the 992?

Bump because I'm looking for a pair of high-end tacks and I can't really find my 1052s or 952s anymore, so I was hoping the Pro Tacks are comparable (or better quality), and I could mmmmmmmaybe find them somewhere.

I knew I should have bought a couple pairs of the 952s when I last found them a couple of years ago, now I'm kicking myself. *sigh*

You and me both.....my 4 year relationship with my 952's was too short. Wish I had bought about 3 pairs of them and I would still be in that fantastic skate. Hands down.....best skate that I have ever used.

EXACTLY!!!

I know you switched to the RBK pump, SPREE, but how similar, exactly, were they to the tacks (fit/feel/size/pitch/etc/etc)? I've been thinking about buying an RBK 4K (I really don't see a need for me to go "pumping" it for the extra dough), but, of course, I would never do it unless someone told me that they were a seamless transition.

I just picked up a pair of 992s and skated in them for the first time yesterday. Pretty nice skates, just need to break them in.

Yeah, but the 992s aren't the 952s. I don't know how similar they are, but I definitely don't like the skate lock, the holder is different, and the general look is distasteful, comparatively.

The fit is pretty damn close. I had a 9 month hiatus between my 952's and my RBK with the Vector in there (horrible fit....surprise gift from my parents to replace my 952's). So I no longer have my 952's, but the fit might be a touch wider in the forefoot than my 7K's. The 7K's do feel stiffer than my 952's, but nothing that wasn't overcome in about 5 sessions of skating. Overall....pretty similar feeling skate. I feel your pain on the pump....but I never use mine. I would recommend getting the 5K or 7K (especially at your size) as I don't have much experience with the non-pump RBK skates, but the do seem inferior with regards to stiffness and quality.

Really? I always thought the 4K was the 9K without the pump.

That I don't know. I tried them on in Detroit and the 4K did not feel as stiff as the 7K, and was not as comfortable in the ankle pockets as the 7K.

How was the size? Exactly the same as the tacks? I will order them online if I can be sure they're identical.

LOL, wow, I could have sworn this was swissrocket's thread. Talk about a highjack. As far as your comment to the lace lock and and appearance, both matters of preference, I like them both myself, but understand others may not. The change of the blade holder was an improvement over the Pro-Lite 3. I think most of the gripes about the old Tacks was the Pro-Lite 3. If you don't believe that then why is the E-Pro holder on all the RBKs? The same RBKs you are looking at in fact, so hopefully you learn to like them, or I guess you could change them out to a Pro-Lite 3.

How, exactly, is it a hijack, considering it is ABOUT tacks, and it had no replies until I bumped it??

Okay.. I guess I could have made a brand NEW thread about the same thing

Yeah I don't see a single question in this post about current RBK skates, that is how it is a highjack. He was asking about the difference between the Pro and the 992. How you translated that into which pair of RBK skates you should get and what size they are and how they fit I don't know. I must be wrong. At any rate, this is my last post in this thread. I originally came into here to contribute to the topic of this thread and have said what I have to say. This has gone far enough off track and the original poster is benefitting nothing from this.

The original poster wasn't benefiting AT ALL from this thread, considering it was almost 2 weeks old, with NO replies and wasn't about to GET ANY.

The only reason you found it, slappy, was because I BUMPED IT, and I'm not starting a new thread to ask a question that arose BECAUSE of this one.

On a topic with little to no movement.....I APPRECIATE da Killers use of an existing thread as opposed to creating a new one.

Simply leave the MODERATING to myself, and all with be happy and euphoric on the forum.

Killer in comparison the 992's in a 8.5e were the same size 8.5e rbk 9k , however I found the heel lock much better in the ccm tack the rbk seemed sloppy to me but I vapor foot. I have tried on 2007 top end RBK non pump it was the 4k I think, anyways it was not nearly as stiff as the 9k but felt fairly well built boot for cash I think there around 200 or so. But as for length and overall depth the boots were almost exact. hope this helps

@Goodkiller, Spree and ricepow
Sorry Guys, I was "out of order" for a few days and logged in today the first time since May 1st and I was surprised to read all the threads concerning CCM Tacks!
Goodkiller, is there a ray of hope to get a new CCM Pro Tacks in size 7.5E ?
Thank you guys

I would say if there is a ray, it's a pretty damn thin one. Aside from the 992's, I don't see hardly any tacks out there in Senior sizes, or, at least not many.

Plus, I've had too much experience with searching everywhere for a discontinued model item, finding some remote online place that carried it, ordering it and then getting an email 3 days later saying "Sorry, that item is out of stock, can we offer you another model??"

It's either a blatant bait & switch, or it's a retailer who doesn't have anything "in stock", they simply take orders and then go out and try to find the item someplace (the same thing that you're already doing)

Good luck with finding, them, though.. Let us know if you come across any!

Goodkiller, thanks for your information which I apreciate. As I still have my Pro Tacks which I have been using for 3 (or 4 ?)seasons now, I decided to order the 992 at HG. I received it today (!) over here in Switzerland. Because HG do not deliver outside of the US I had to ship it through a friend of mine who's living in Washington and who was working at the Swiss Embassy here in Berne. Pretty much complicated...... but finally I'm positively surpriesed concerning the 992. There are a few small differences to the pro tack (outsole, different pro armor) but in general it is a very similar skate. Also the weight is almost the same.
