K2 VO2 S Frame Technology Insight
A One-Sided Conversation
The newest additions to the K2 Skates lineup utilize a brand new, one-sided frame that dampens vibrations and lets the wheel colors pop. Add a variety of wheel sizes and styles, advanced lacing systems and K2's famously comfortable soft boot, and one thing's certain: cross-training skates have never been more fun.
One-Sided Frame
Why One-Sided?
Well, for their 25 year anniversary, K2 wanted to liven things up a bit. Their main drive, wow factor! These look like they are from the future and are sure to bring lots of attention but there's more than meets the eye; one-sided frames also dampen vibrations to give you a smoother ride!
Dampen Vibrations? What does that mean and how does a one-sided frame help?
When we say dampen vibrations, we mean reducing that trembling feeling when you are on rough surfaces (you know, the one that makes your legs go numb and your voice sound funny). Most of the pesky vibration is caused by your wheels rattling between the TWO sides of your frame. Remove one of those sides and viola, less vibration!
How much dampening are we talking?
K2 claims 15-20% dampening compared to previous models. Our experience: noticeably improved dampening over previous models. The end result will feel more like a composite, aka plastic, frame but without the loss of energy from your stride!
Won't it just fold in half under my weight?
No! The side of the frame that is there has been beefed up to be super strong and hold up just like a traditional frame. You can expect the same stability as previous VO2 models and there are no additional weight or skill restrictions.
Is it lighter than a traditional frame?
Well, it's not any heavier... but it isn't lighter. Just cooler!
What about a brake?
A brake comes attached and is removable!
