K2 VO2 Vortech Ventilation Technology Insight
Vortech Ventilation System (VO2)
What is Vortech Ventilation System?
It's the technology used in every VO2 boot that helps keep your feet dry. In short, it's like air conditioning for your feet.
Okay... but what is it?
It's a three-part system that forces air through the boot to keep your feet cool and dry. The three parts are:
- The Vortech Upper features more mesh than the traditional soft boot to allow air to move more freely through the boot. At the base of the upper is the perforated Vortech Sole that helps moisture pass through to the vents in the shell.
- The Vortech Footbed that uses large perforations to keep the moisture from pooling on the top of your insole.
- A Vortech Base with air intake vents, exhaust vents and vapor channels to direct air through the front of the skate and out the back.
Wow, K2 is really concerned about moisture!
Yes! Did you know that the average person produces 1.25 POUNDS of foot sweat per day? On long skating sessions, that can be a major problem if your skates don't have proper ventilation.
Why doesn't every K2 skate use Vortech Ventilation?
The VO2 boot is designed specifically for Cross-Training skaters because they are the ones who benefit the most from it! The design is more complicated, meaning higher production costs so it's not a great fit for a lower end recreational skate; and while the venting makes the skate more comfortable and lighter, it isn't as durable so it isn't the best for Urban or Lifestyle skating. It's the skate that is juuuuuust right for a long distance cross-trainer!
